We decided to learn more about how to make this delicious dish. The best way to find out is of course to find a granadina capable of traditional cooking. We found her. There are recipes on the web, but its best to see how its done. However I am not going to describe that here, but rather refer you to some sites like this one and this one. Anyway a picture is worth a thousand words.

Habas con jamón at Mumm
After a bit of walking, its allways good to find yourself a nice little tapas bar to a rest the old legs. We dropped in at Mumm, close to C/ Reyes Catolicos in the very center of Granada. After ordering a couple of beers, a tray of habas con jamón landed on the table. Habas con jamón is a traditional plate from the province of Granada. Delicious.

Bar Niza, always first class tapas.
Bar Niza has been around for some time now. People are telling me they used to come here 15 years ago. And why did they come? The tapas of course. If you go there today, you will see why. Tapas are above average, both in quantity and quality. After ordering a beer we got a tray of big juicy olives, and then they asked if we wanted some migas as well. On the inside, the bar is rather small and basically without seating. However they have plenty of tables and chairs on the outside. Give it a try :)

French tapas and quiz at Café Piaf
The french singer Edith Piaf has been the inspiration for this charming little place in Calle Buensuceso, an otherwise dark and quiet street trapped between Plaza de la Trinidad and Calle Puentezuelas. Over a few years this hidden tapas bar has still managed to work up quite the crowd of faithful customers. The secret is as follows: Absolutely WONDERFUL tapas with a french twist. Choose two varieties for your table, be it eggplant paté with garlic, Camenbert with jam, cheese gratinated potatoes or spanish ham on rustiqe bread. Eat and enjoy, while listening to yes, Edith Piaf, The Beatles or other classics.
Though quite a small bar with a chilled out environment, every thursday night around 22.00 the place more or less fills up for the popular knowledge quiz. Twenty questions of all different categories are read out in first french, then spanish. And if you win, round of tapas for the table, or even a bottle of wine!
Tuesday night is "Noche de los pisos", where you can come to either look for a place to live or for a new roommate to your apartment. In the case of not having any luck, the bar keeps a big book where you can write down your information and even attach photos.
New to the list of activities in Café Piaf is "Noches de Trueque", started up to help out in times of financial difficulties. This is an arrangement set up to organize exchange of goods and sevices with no money included. " An electric reparation for a massage, or a new video game in exchange for babysitting", is the motto. Stop by to check out the offers - or simply to enjoy the "can´t get enough of them" -tapas...

Bodegas Castañeda
Bodegas Castañeda is the mother of all tapas bars in Granada. This is where you have to start. It is for sure the most famous one. There are plenty of reviews written and we will not bother to add anything. Just go there and see for yourself. That is if you can get through the crowd of course.
